Karaoke Girl 2013
Plot Synopsis
A unique combination of documentary and fiction film, Karaoke Girl follows Sa Sittijun, who at fifteen went to work at a factory in Bangkok, but three years later decided to sell her body in order to support her family. Four years later, she met writer-director Visra Vichit Vadakan, who "cast" her in Karaoke Girl, sensitively documenting Sa's life as a sex worker while warmly exploring her poor family and rustic origins. Meanwhile, Sa participates in Vadakan's scripted narrative, which depicts Sa's bittersweet search for real love between her daily toils. Sa Sittijun displays natural poise playing a fictionalised version of herself in this assured and illuminating first feature from Visra Vichit Vadakan.
